The Higg Index

We use the Higg Index to measure sustainability in a standardised way, aligning with a common language for the industry.

Developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), the Higg Index offers a standardised method of assessing the social and environmental performance of the value chain and the environmental impacts of products. Across topics such as water use, carbon emissions, and employment conditions, consumer goods brands, retailers, manufacturers, governments, NGOs and consumers can use the Higg Index to let the public know about their individual sustainability strategies and drive collective industry transformation. Jack Wolfskin is working intensively in order to implement the Higg Index into its sustainability strategy, focussing especially on the following tools:

  • Higg Brand and Retail Module (BRM): offers companies a comprehensive way to assess and communicate their annual social and environmental performance at the corporate level.
  • Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM): measures the environmental performance of an individual facility, helping manufacturers identify and prioritise opportunities for improvement.
  • Higg Facility Social & Labor Module (FSLM): allows facilities to assess the social and employment conditions for its workers, helping to ensure they’re creating safe and fair working conditions.

We work to ensure that all stages of the supply chain, including Jack Wolfskin itself, are assessed and considered in their entirety. This guarantees that any issues are identified and continuously improved, as well as ensuring that we are able to achieve full environmental and social transparency.
