JACK WOLFSKIN launches the new season with a focus on multi-day hiking. For the new, high-tech INFINITE HIKE line, it intensified its time-proven cooperation with the professional mountain guides of the ALPINSCHULE INNSBRUCK (ASI Reisen). These alpine experts drew on their experience to contribute important ideas to the development of the collection. The results are lightweight, ultimate high-end products with high-tech, mountain-specific functions and ingenious details – ideal for serious mountaineering above the treeline as well as ambitious hiking and multi-day tours. All products carry the ‘ASI-Approved Product’ logo.

Daniele Grasso, Director Apparel at JACK WOLFSKIN, is excited about the long-running cooperation: ‘This partnership is a perfect symbiosis of outdoor and alpine competence. Together, we can continue to provide new impetus.’ And ASI Director Ambros Gasser explains: ‘Our mountain guides are exposed daily to all kinds of weather and the most diverse situations around the world. They need a reliable partner that consistently delivers top performance and functionality.’

TOUR TIP: MULTI-DAY TREK IN THE ROFAN MOUNTAINS

Lonely trails, pristine nature, jagged peaks and a breathtaking panorama – the Rofan is one of the smallest ranges in the Alps, but offers an extraordinary nature experience due to its variety. The seasoned guide Birgit Christ of the ALPINSCHULE INNSBRUCK (ASI Reisen) led us on a three-day hut-to-hut hiking tour.

3,000 METRES’ ELEVATION IN THREE DAYS – A TOUR SUMMARY

The first leg begins in the little market town of Brixlegg in the Austrian state of Tyrol. From the district of Kramsach-Hagau, elevation 534 metres, the hike leads up steep alpine trails to the Pletzachsattel, along a mountain road to Pletzachalm and finally, after two and a half hours, to the cosy Bayreuth hut (1,576 metres).

On the second day, the route traverses alpine meadows, grassy slopes and steep, rocky pine-covered terrain, to the high ridge, with its abundant vistas. The view from the ridge in the direction of the Rofan summit is breathtaking. A four-hour journey on a good trail then leads past the Rosskopf, Hochiss and Gschöllkopf peaks to the Erfurt hut (1,834 metres), directly adjacent to the summit station of the Rofanbahn.

The third leg starts with a two-and-a-half-hour hike from the Erfurt hut down a beautiful trail through alpine meadows into a high valley and then to the lookout above the Durrawand – for staggering views to Achen Lake far below and across to the Karwendel range. From there, the route leads past the settlement of Dalfaz, through alpine pastures and down through forest to the final destination, Buchau on the shore of Achen Lake.

At the end of the tour, it is clear: the new INFINITE HIKE products have provided the perfect all-round accompaniment to the richly varied tour!

OUR EXPERT, BIRGIT CHRIST (47)

Birgit Christ

Birgit Christ is an absolute expert when it comes to multi-day hikes. Born in Tyrol, she completed her training as a hiking guide in 1999. As her main occupation is teaching, she works as a guide primarily in the summer holidays and at weekends for the Alpinschule Innsbruck. In summer, she leads hiking groups on tours such as the traverse of Norway’s Jotunheimen National Park.

AN ATHLETE THROUGH AND THROUGH …

Ambitious outdoor activities are my greatest passion! I lead ski tours and am also, among other things, a mountain bike instructor, an accompanying teacher for snowboarders and a sport climbing trainer.

WHAT SHE LOVES DOING …

My very favourite sport is ski touring. In summer, I like to ride my mountain bike, run, climb mountains and surf – with or without a sail.

HER FAVOURITE PLACES …

At home, I have so many favourite spots that I can’t even count them. But I especially like places where there’s both water and mountains. That’s probably why I spend so much time in Norway.
